One company distributes the telephony recording systems used by 9-1-1 operators and police departments. Another holds 27 patents for the safety features on its ear piercing equipment. Others turn old newspapers into housing materials or crude oil into the gasoline we put in our cars.New Jersey is still a good manufacturing state. On Monday, November 18, the New Jersey Business & Industry Association put manufacturing on display at the State House at its 7th Annual Made in New Jersey Day. Product samples also were distributed in NJBIA's popular "New Jersey Sampler Bag". Governor James E. McGreevey, Commerce Commissioner William Watley, Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo, and dozens of state Senators and Assembly members were among the hundreds who checked out the displays and talked with the manufacturers. "If it can be made, chances are that someone in New Jersey is making it," NJBIA President Joseph Gonzalez said. "From small family-owned businesses to large international companies, New Jersey is home to some of the most innovative and creative enterprises anywhere. These are the companies that keep our economy going and our people employed. Made in New Jersey Day is just one way we celebrate what they do." Among this year's exhibitors were: - Marcal Paper Mills, Inc. of Elmwood Park, a brand-name manufacturer of napkins, tissues and toilet paper;
- L'Oreal USA of Clark, a leading international cosmetics manufacturer;
- Bende and Sons, Inc. of Passaic, which makes ribbons and braids for uniforms, including uniforms for the United States Military;
- Rebco Inc. of Paterson, which has been manufacturing architectural aluminum products for more than 40 years. The company works with customers to individually design store fronts, windows, and building entrances;
- Homasote Company of West Trenton, which compresses recycled newspapers to make Homasote, a type of particle board used primarily as a sound-deadening insulation in buildings and houses;
- Kova Corporation of Tuckerton, which makes digital telephony recording equipment, such as those used by 9-1-1 call centers; and
- Inverness Corporation of Fairlawn, which manufactures ear-piercing equipment and earrings. The safety features on its ear piercing system have earned Inverness 27 patents.
Founded in 1910 by a handful of manufacturers who wanted to exchange information and take positions on government issues, NJBIA now represents over 19,000 member companies of every type and size in every county in the Garden State. | Exhibitors | | | Company | Product | Town | Bende & Sons, Inc.
