News Advance—Attention Health and Business Editors

The New Jersey Business & Industry Association, the State’s largest business association representing more than 23,000 member companies, will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, to release the findings of its 2007 Health Benefits Survey.

NJBIA President Philip Kirschner and Health Affairs Vice President Christine Stearns will present the findings at the Association’s headquarters at 102 West State Street in Trenton.

The survey findings will reveal what proportion of employers provided health insurance coverage to their employees last year, what they paid on average for that coverage, how much their costs rose over the past year, their inflation expectations for 2007, their cost-control strategies, the types of plans they are using, and the types of coverage they are offering.

Since 1993, the survey has produced the only statewide measure of the experiences of a diverse group of New Jersey employers in providing health benefits to employees and their families.

The results of the 2007 survey are based on the first 1,148 valid responses from a random sample of New Jersey 9,837 NJBIA member companies representing every industry in all 21 New Jersey counties.  Eighty-seven percent of respondents were small companies employing 2-50 people.
