Membership at the New Jersey Business &Industry Association (NJBIA) continues to grow, pushing enrollment beyond 19,000 member companies at what is already the nation's largest state-level employer association, NJBIA President Joe Gonzalez announced today.

Less than one year after cracking the 18,000-member level for the first time in its 92-year history, NJBIA has surpassed the 19,000-member companies mark. In fact, only 18 months ago, NJBIA had fewer than 17,000 members.

"Businesspeople make business decisions. More and more, employers are concluding that joining NJBIA just makes good business sense," Gonzalez said. "We offer great networking opportunities, terrific representation in the Legislature on important business issues, discounted telecommunication and shipping services, access to New Jersey Manufacturers insurance, and practical advice through seminars and programs."

NJBIA's lobbyists track hundreds of bills annually, testify often at legislative hearings and promote state policies that encourage job creation and lower business costs.

"We advocate the policies that our members tell us will improve New Jersey's business climate," Executive Vice President Philip Kirschner said. "With the help of our 11 member-driven policy committees, we give a voice to the concerns of our 19,000-plus business owners and the people they employ. With our new Economic Growth Agenda for 2003, we will continue to fight for state policies that encourage job creation and a healthy economy."

Among other benefits, NJBIA members are eligible to apply for workers' compensation and fleet auto insurance through the New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Group (NJM), the state's largest property/casualty insurer. Employees of member companies are eligible to apply for NJM personal automobile coverage and homeowners insurance.

Members also can participate in discount shipping through Shipping Plus as well as discount telecommunications programs.

NJBIA annually hosts many seminars on business topics such as buying health insurance, finding and keeping good employees, legal and human resources issues facing business, and complying with environmental regulations.

Finally, NJBIA provides the monthly New Jersey Business Magazine to its members free of charge and offers them reference works such as A Practical Guide to New Jersey Employment Law: The Employer's Resource (2001-2002) and the NJBIA Compensation Report (2002-2003).
